Baby it’s cold outside!

6 Feb

The temperatures have plummeted rececently and sometimes it is difficult to look stylish yet keep warm at the same time. Your go to option should be faux fur – very on trend right now and perfect for keeping you nice and toasty!

Faux fur for the ultimate in every day glamour

Just one plush garment can shield you from the elements and make you look luxuriously snug (and smug) – faux fur.

From teddy bear coats to subtle fluffy trims, there’s a Winter wonder to suit everyone’s furry fashion limit. Why not be faux fur fabulous with all this cold weather around?

Full pelt

A thick, faux fur coat has Winter written all over it. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, it’s a sound overcoat investment for the big freeze months, from November through to March.

Colour is all-important when selecting your faux fur. If you have a Warm skin tone go for the browns, fawns and camels, should you have a Cool skin tone choose grey or black fur.

There are also lots of animal print furs which are the ultimate statement if you have a Dramatic or Creative style personality. Leopard used to be the go-to print, but now you’ll find Friesian cow or Dalmatian spots, if you prefer a quirky monochrome colour way.

Furry trims

Faux fur can be used as a glamorous accent on clothes, almost like tinsel on a Christmas tree, but minus sparkle.

You can pretty much forgo a scarf if you opt for a winter coat with a generous faux fur or shearling collar. The bigger the collar, the bigger the style statement.

Avoid a furry collar if you’re bigger busted, as it’s likely to exaggerate your proportions but, conversely, if you’re lacking in that area, it can boost your assets.

Generous faux fur trims on hemlines are the latest way to draw attention to your legs. Ensure you keep your pins streamlined in skinny jeans, leggings or tights, so that the fur can frame your limbs to the max.

This Dr. Zivago look never disappoints on the glam stakes.

Fluffy extras

Embrace the fluff factor with Siberia-inspired extras. Keep the cold out with furry snoods and scarves draped over shoulders, big hats – Cossack style – cuddling heads, and mittens over paws – all easy ways to add fur accents to your look.

If you want a colour contrast, the high street has rainbow bright numbers for a fun approach. Many of the above are available in the shops now at extraordinary discounts.

Throw practicality out of the window with this season’s surprise fuzzy evening extras: think sandals trimmed with fluffy marabou and clutch bags decked out in cosy shearling. They won’t keep you warm but they will look furry fabulous.

It just so happens that I have some fab bargains for you too! I have lots of faux fur items and vintage inspired gloves listed on Ebay right now! I have a Buy it Now price but you can make me an offer – I need to get rid of all my Winter stock so do take a look. Click on the picture below to have a browse.

Warming up Winter

Warming up Winter

Do you have gorgeous Titian tresses like Christina Hendricks? Yours is a very striking look.

Red is fabulous on you – IF it is the right shade to complement your lovely locks. An LRD with a yellow or orange base will give you the WOW factor!

Black is not a very flattering colour for you. If you must wear it, keep it away from your face, like a skirt or trousers and team it with a top in one of your WOW colours such as coral or turquoise.

When choosing a colour for your party frock, think of all the colours of the leaves of the trees in Autumn – golds, greens, oranges – all will look amazing with your hair!

You will always look best in colours of medium depth with a yellow undertone – avoid colours like baby pink or icy violet as these will make you look grey.

Always choose gold accessories over silver as these will complement your skin tone, making you look radiant and golden.

For your makeup, blusher and lipstick in peachy, salmony shades will make you come alive.

Have a fab Christmas Golden Girl!

Not sure what colours suit you? You need to be colourised! Still time to book in in December to look fabulous for Christmas.

Scarlet Fever

16 Aug

Helloooo!

It has been such a long time since I blogged – I have been really, really busy – have you missed me? I hope everyone is having a great Summer and looking forward to the exciting new fashions that are starting to appear in the shops right now.

Autumn is my favourite time of year and I can’t contain my giddiness that THE hot colour for Autumn/Winter 2014 is RED!!!

susan-styles-you-women-trends-review-fall-winter-2014-2015-from-milan-london-paris-new-york-fashion-weeks-red

The catwalks were awash with healthy, warm and vibrant head to toe scarlets in all hues this season. Red is the ultimate power colour that screams “LOOK AT ME!”. If you want to be noticed and remembered – wear red, but not just any red – your red!

Red is a difficult colour to get right as there are so many different shades of it. I know from personal experience. You see, I never wore red until I disovered Colour Analysis and found MY red. My mother never dressed me in red as a child, I never chose red when I was old enough to shop for myself. I simply believed that wearing red would clash with my hair. But now I have discovered the right reds for my individual colouring, I love to wear it and I am always complimented when I wear it. The red family has so many variations, from raspberry to tomato so getting the undertone right is crucial.

Red is the colour of energy, wear red and you will feel confident and in control. It will bring excitement to your day. It is a great colour to wear at the end of the week when your energy levels may be flagging. So, probably not a great colour to wear if you are trying to get the kids off to sleep 🙂

There are two reds in Pantone’s Fall 2014 collection. Firstly, Sangria, “an exotic red that evokes a sense of glamorous adventures and faraway destinations”.

Secondly, there is Aurora Red “a more sophisticated shade that adds verve and spark”. Nice of them to give us a choice 🙂

When wearing red, take care with your lipstick and make sure it is in the same tone. Colour Me Beautiful cosmetics are specifically designed to suit individual colouring, so it makes your choice easy peasy! You can purchase Colour Me Beautiful cosmetics from my online shop Susan Styles You. If you are not sure what suits you, just give me a call and I can help you choose!

For those with warm undertones, choose an earthy red like Tomato.

For those with a cool undertone, Ruby is lovely.

Autumn/Winter 2013 trends for Titian Tresses

4 Sep
Warm

If like me, you have red/auburn/strawberry blonde hair, Autumn is YOUR best season. Think of all the colours in the leaves of the trees and you can’t go far wrong. Think oranges, reds, golds, greens etc.

This Top Shop multi textured skirt ticks all the right boxes colour wise and the A line design keeps it perfectly on trend. Team with a pair of olive coloured opaques and pair of tan suede knee length boots. This tan, leather look jacket from New Look is ideal for dressing up day wear and layering over an evening dress for a alternative edge! The waterfall design is very flattering on larger busts too. For a little more interest as I have added the Serenity Stone died jade necklace from Stella and Dot. It cleverly comes with a removal extender for adjustable lengths (For some reason the Polyvore links says this is sold out but it is not. To purchase click HERE)

Keep your make-up “Warm” with gold and apricot tones and maybe try Colour Me Beautiful’s Sheer Copper lipstick – gorgeous on Redheads!

C’est chic!

C'est chic!

I have put this look together for a House of Fraser fashion bloggers competition. Can you guess which iconic fashion capital my look has been inspired by?

I love the bright and warm colours in the bodycon dress from Biba. It is so easy to wear and can be dressed up or down. You can’t beat a red coat to chase away the Winter blues, and this Linea one is so figure flattering. I love the ladylike shape. The classic neutral coloured bag from Mary Portas will go with everything and is roomy enough to carry around every day essentials. I have added a colour pop with the electric blue heels from Nine West and vampy red nail polish from Mac. As the dress is quite busy I have kept the jewellery simple with a gold cocktail ring. The bold, retro inspired sunnies from Mui Mui will add glamour and sophistication to my look.

What to invest in this Autumn

7 Oct

So many temptations! So many delicious colours! So little time! Not so much money!!

As I have said before, Autumn is my favourite time of year as, being a redhead, I am spoiled for choice with all the rich, warm colours that are around. The good news is that there are so many choices this Autumn about what’s in, what’s out and what’s on trend. The most important thing is to know the right colours and shapes for you. Start with your own wardrobe and you will re-discover garments you had forgotten! Investment pieces you bought in the past few years will work just as well now as they did last Autumn. Do you own anything animal print? Dig it out – animal print is big news this Autumn/Winter.

So, it’s decluttering and recycling from past seasons, accessorising in a different way (ankle boots rather than high boots?) and mixing up garments and colours you might not have considered before.

My number one tip is Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! I have to say I am really impressed with Marks & Spencer’s collections this year. They have some super stuff. Some of the items I have added this year so far are a cute little detachable faux fur collar from Marks & Spencer (a bargain at £15)  that will spruce up dresses and jackets alike, a pair of pewter grey suede boots that I have been on the lookout for, like, forever, an animal print trilby hat (also M&S), and of course, some Stella & Dot bling! I have ordered this cute Limited Edition Fox ring and can’t wait to wear it with the matching pendant. You will spot lots of animal themed clothes and jewellery this Autumn/Winter – owls, foxes, stags … This lovely ring is part of Alice Temperley’s collection for Stella & Dot and is sure to be a sellout! Alice Temperley is a British fashion designer who is known for combining femininity with cool Britannia sensibilities. She has reigned over the London fashion scene for the past decade, with an impressive celeb following including Beyonce and Kate and Pippa Middleton.
