Marks and Spencer Spring/Summer 2015 collection

4 Mar

Last week London Fashion Week came to Manchester for the first time as Marks and Spencer hosted the only official event outside London in its Manchester City Centre store.

I was invited along and, on arrival I felt the excitement and buzz as people started to queue for the first show. Of course, having a VIP invitation, I bypassed the crowds and was soon handed a goody bag (thank you Marks and Spencer for such a generous gift)  and a complimentary glass of fizz. Soon after, I was escorted to the frow and eagerly anticipated the start of the show! It was opened by M&S Style Director, Belinda Earl and, following this, we were treated to an exclusive film featuring British fashion expert, Caryn Franklin, showing the highlights and trends of London Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter 2015.

I have to say that I was mightily impressed with Marks and Spencer’s new collection. It was funky and fresh and also a little bit edgy. I was genuinely surprised at some of the looks I saw on the catwalk and would not have guessed in a million years that some of the designs were from good old M&S! There was not a waterfall cardi in sight! I have purchased the odd item of clothing for myself from Marks and Spencer in the past and always use the Market Street store for my Personal Shopping clients, but they will definitely be on my “go to” list from now on.

Of course, there was more than a nod to the 70s trend and there were some very chic outfits that would not look out of place in Paris or Milan, but what I loved were the bright florals that popped up frequently throughout the show.

So here is a selection of my favourite looks from the catwalk – all available in store between now and May. I already have my eye on that gorgeous sunshine yellow 50s inspired dress! That navy jumpsuit is sure to be a sell out. The cut was just beautiful and it has arm coverage yay! This is a very versatile piece to add to your Spring wardrobe that would take you from anything to a night out or a fancy wedding, just by cleverly switching accessories. If you are thinking of purchasing this then get in quick I say! Anything you fancy?

I must say it is great that Manchester is upping its fashion credentials and giving London a run for their money with the likes of the hugely successful Vogue’s Fashion Night Out last year, and now a collaboration with London Fashion Week! Let’s have more of this please!

City Break Chic

City Break Chic

After being “Colourised”, Debbie came back for a Style Consultation. She was heading off on a stylish city break and wanted some outfit ideas. Debbie usually dressed more casually but wanted something a bit chic for this trip.

When we looked at colours, Debbie looked amazing in Baby Pink and it just so happens to be one of the top trends for this season. It looks fabulous with black, but black is a bit too harsh for Debbie’s colouring so I teamed it with some charcoal grey. Debbie has a lovely hourglass figure so I chose some trousers from Marks and Spencer with a side zip fastening – so much more flattering on curvy ladies. I teamed it with a Baby Pink ribbed peplum jumper from Reiss – the peplum will draw attention to her small waist. The coat has a self tie belt which will also emphasise her waist and keep her cosy. Nude patent wedges are comfy, yet stylish for all that walking around. A pair of soft grey sunnies are much more flattering for Debbie and they will also add a touch of glam! I accessorised with a lady like Guess bag, a cute little butterfly print scarf from M&S and some delicate silver jewellery from Stella and Dot.

Debbie loves this look and it has inspired her try out new ideas when she next goes shopping.

Autumn/Winter 2013 trends for a Neutral type of a gal

Autumn/Winter 2013 trends for a Neutral type of a gal

Are you a neutral type of a gal? Do you have dark blonde to light brown hair that you would describe as mousy? Bright, jewel like colours will overpower you and you will look your bestest in muted, tone on tone colours with little contrast.

This oatmeal coloured cable knit swing dress is a winner for you – the cosy cowl neck will keep you from feeling chilly! The classic tan coloured riding boot will never date and are comfy yet stylish. Make a statement with a bold leopard print shopper – animal prints are very on trend again this season. The feather trimmed angora trilby from M&S adds to the laid back look of this outfit.

Of course, I finished the look with some Stella and Dot jewels. The gorgeous Aurora cocktail ring is an oval cut smoky glass stone is held in place by a pave claw detail and the cute little delicate drop earrings bring everything together.

Keep warm and stylish this Autumn!

Susan’s Style Search – Fridah

21 Jul

I was down in London last weekend having a blast at Hoopla – Stella and Dot’s annual event. I can’t bring myself to call it a conference as it was so much fun! I met lots of other lovely ladies who obviously had amazing sense of style but Fridah stood out in the crowd.

I was there for 2 days so spotted Fridah wearing a number of stunning outfits but this was my favourite. Timeless elegance and simplicity is the way to describe this look.

She is championing the High Street in her Marks and Spencer skirt, Mango blouse, Dune Shoes and Zara bag. Her statement jewellery is of course, Stella and Dot. The Adrienne earrings are unfortunately sold out but the Petra bracelet is available here.

I love the coffee and cream colours of this outfit with a pop of colour in the shoes. I love the tie detail around the top, accentuating the waist and the split in the skirt, elongates the body and shows just enough leg to be sexy and demure at the same time (if that is possible). She is ticking so many Spring/Summer 2012 boxes here, colour blocking, pleats, and studs (on the bag).

Fridah is inspired by Victoria Beckham’s dramatic look and loves fashion from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Way to go Fridah! Give me a sexy turn!

Put a spring in your step!

Ladies may I introduce the flatform -. the key look for spring 2012. Prada started the trend last summer with the brogue flatform but sandals are all over the high street this year!  You have the height of a platform but the comfort of a flattie. How clever!

I love this Limited Collection Marks and Spencer sandal. The colour is a kind of pewter so very flattering to most skin tones and goes with most things. The heel height is neither too high nor too low. The wedge has a lovely snake skin effect which is rather funky. They do come up a little big on the size though. I did try on a 3 (which is my size) in Manchester last week and they were way too big so you may have to go down a size. Unfortunately, they don’t do a 2 so I miss out this time.

In stores now at a very good price too. £29.50.

Wear them with a flirty little summer dress or floaty trousers. Or if your chosen flatforms have a higher heel, go for a 70s vibe with flared jeans. The Marks and Spencers ones are perfect for your summer holiday as they are also very light.

Add these lovelies to your wardrobe now and you will be bang on trend this season.
