All Change!

16 Sep

I have been a bit quiet lately as I have been busy moving house. Believe me, THE most stressful thing ever. I have not moved very far but have lots more space. Things are slowly starting to get back to normal and I am accepting consultations once again in my new studio.

So, as the seasons are changing, I have had a couple of other little changes too! I now have a new website that includes some extra new virtual services – Capsule Wardrobe and Personallised Pin Board. I am also now a fully trained Advanced Face Yoga Teacher, offering a brand new service which will compliment everything else I already offer, helping you to be the THE BEST YOU – more of this below.

My new website will soon incorporate a “One Stop Style Shop” which will be my accessories store, where you can purchase jewellery, scarves, etc, just in time for Christmas!

So, please take a look and tell me what you think! Click on my new logo below.

So yes, the exciting news is that I am now a fully qualified Face Yoga Teacher! I started practicing the Danielle Collins Method of Face Yoga about 6 months ago and I began to see the results in about 2 weeks. Once you know the correct techniques, your only investment is 20 minutes of your time each day to achieve a more youthful, glowing face. Think about it. We all know that if we want a lean and toned body, we must exercise the muscles. Well, the same is true for the face so why stop at the neck?

susan-styles-you-danielle

The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method is a simple combination of facial exercises, acupressure and massage, which not only helps to tone and lift the muscles, increase circulation and the production of collagen and elastin, but also gives a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation.

I am offering 90 minute 1 to 1 consultations at my studio for the price of £95. Included in the price is a Danielle Collins wall chart worth £10 to take away with you so you can practice at home. As a special introductory offer, if you book before the end of October, you will receive a Danielle Collins Pro Lift Facial Moisturising Serum worth £27.99.

Magnificent Marsala

10 Jan
Marsala

So Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2015 is Marsala – a shade the company says will enrich the human mind, body and soul.

Marsala makes for an elegant, grounded statement, whether it stands on its own or serves as a strong accent alongside other colours.

“Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth” said Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Colour Institute’s executive director.

It’s a really luxurious and romantic colour. Imagine deep, burgundy wines waiting to meet your lips.

This hearty yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors” Eiseman states.

It is not an easy colour to wear, however. How will you be incorporating this trending colour into your wardrobe? I have some tips to help you.

Do you have mousey hair that you may have highlighted à la Jennifer Aniston?

susan-styles-you-jennifer-anistonsusan-styles-you-marsala-pantonetaupe

Marsala on you will create an elegant and sophisticated look when you wear it head to toe. As a block colour, wear it with one of your neutral shades; try it with Taupe or Rose Brown.

Do you have very light blonde hair and pale blue or green eyes like Gwyneth Paltrow?

gwyneth-paltrowsusan-styles-you-marsala-pantonepetrol_blue_swatch_large

Wear Marsala if you are looking for an understated look on its own, or with Stone or Pewter shades. For a more colourful ensemble, wear it with Petrol or Light Teal.

Are you a red-head like Emma Stone?

emma-stonesusan-styles-you-marsala-pantonelime

Go for the Wow factor when you wear it with your Orange Reds and the Greens in your palette such as Turquoise and Lime.

Do you have dark hair and dark eyes like Eva Longoria?

Eva-Longoria-Hairstyles-Flip-up-Hairstylesusan-styles-you-marsala-pantonedamson

You will bring Marsala into your wardrobe in a print together with your Burgundies, Aubergines, Damsons and purples.

Do you have dark hair and bright eyes like the Duchess of Cambridge?

10-Duchess-of-Cambridgesusan-styles-you-marsala-pantoneemerald turquoise

Marsala is a soft and muted colour so it would not be the first choice for you. However, it can work as part of a print with shades such as Chinese Blue, Emerald Turquoise or Fern, for example. Or you may want to opt for an accessory, but not a necklace or scarf as they are too close to the face; bracelets and handbags would work a treat.

Do you have silver, platinum or salt and pepper hair like Jamie-Lee Curtis?

jamie leesusan-styles-you-marsala-pantonesilver grey

You will wear Marsala when you prefer a softer approach to colour in your wardrobe. Wear it with greys from Charcoal to Silver Grey.

One piece of advice for everyone, if Marsala is close to your face, make sure the lipstick you wear works with it and doesn’t clash, unless you want to achieve a creative or dramatic look.

For those with a cool, pink undertone try Colour Me Beautiful Plumberry susan-styles-you-plumberry

For those with a warm, peach undertone try Colour Me Beautiful Mochaberry susan-styles-you-mochaberry

Not sure whether Marsala will work for you? You need to be Colourised! Come and discover how to look younger, more healthy and more vibrant just by wearing the right colours. Don’t forget, if you book and pay for a Colour Consultation before the end of January 2015, I am throwing in up to £25 worth of FREE ACCESSORIES! An offer not to be missed! Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.

Glitter in gold or sparkle in silver?

28 Dec
Glitter in gold or sparkle in silver?

New Year’s Eve is almost upon us and that can only mean one thing it’s PARTY time!!!

Whatever your plans are for this New Year’s Eve, it is always fun to glam up a bit more than normal – and add a little sparkle and bling! Have you chosen your outfit yet? If not, I wanted to give you a few tips on how to look amazing this New Year!

Most people have an overall “Warm” or “Cool” appearance. For some people, it is much easier to determine. For example, red heads are usually “Warm” and anyone with silver, grey or platinum hair is usually “Cool”. For others, it might not be so obvious. As a redhead, I know that I look awful in silver and that gold lights up my face, making me look fresh, alive and, well, just more healthy!

Wearing something with a blue base or cool undertone just drains me, makes my teeth look yellow, emphasises my fine lines and makes me appear pale and sickly. Yuck! Let’s look at jewellery. If you think you have colouring similar to me, you should choose stones such as coral or golden toned pearls. Stone colour should focus on more earthy tones such as browns, oranges, greens, yellows, peaches, corals. Anything turquoise will look fab on you.

The best eyeshadow colours for you are browns, oranges, yellows, coppers, and, of course, gold. Go for a peachy blush and an orange based red lip.

Somebody with a “Cool” look, will not look their best in yellow based colours which will make their skin appear sallow. However, wearing a blue based, cool colour will make them look radiant! Silver metal will make their face come alive and their face will become luminous and healthy. If this is you, choose white pearls or diamonds. Stone colour should focus on jewel tones such as pinks, purples, blues, reds, and magentas.

For your eye shadow, silver, grey, heather and mauve will all look amazing. Keep your cheek colour pink based and for your lips, a blue based red or cool pink will look stunning.

Of course, just to confuse matters, you *could* be neutral, in which case you have the best of both worlds and will look fabulous in either.

Have a fab New Year’s Eve and see you in 2015!

Not sure? Have I confused you even more? Why not book in for a Colour Consultation and be prepared to be AMAZED at how fabulous you can look in colour!

Bright as a bauble!

12 Dec
Bright as a bauble!

Do you have dark brown to black hair with bright eyes – either blue, green or topaz? Your colouring will be similar to the Duchess of Cambridge with lots of contrast. To create harmony and balance you should wear bright and contrasting colours. Jewel colours such as scarlet, chinese blue or emerald turquoise will make your eyes sparkle and shine! If you like to wear sludgy colours such as taupe and pewter, liven them up with a colourful scarf or pashmina in your WOW colours near your face. If you choose to dress in a single colour, make sure it is one of the brightest in your palette for a statement look.

Black is stunning on you, but you can have fun by adding brighter shades in striking accessories such as sparkling necklaces, brooches and earrings or glasses in a bright colour.

As for your make-up, try either a strong eye makeup colour or a strong lip – never both. A bright red or pink lipstick will make your eyes pop!

Now is the season to sparkle!

Cool Yule

11 Dec
Cool Yule

Do you have platinum or silver hair, or maybe some ash tones in your hair like Helen Mirren? Your look is very fashionable at the moment as natural, grey hair has been sweeping the catwalks lately. It oozes sophistication and elegance.

PLEASE don’t disappear in browns and beiges! These are NOT good colours for you and will drain your face of all colour. Keep a look out for rose brown – this is a lovely colour for you as it has a pinkish undertone. If you must wear colours like taupe and pewter, you can balance your look by wearing a fabulous pashmina or scarf in rose pink or teal.

Avoid colours that have a warm, yellow tone, as these will make your skin appear sallow. If you do wear yellow, it must be icy lemon.

Because your look is cool and pinkish, your colours need to have a cool (blue) undertone, preferably with some contrast. You will always look best in medium to deep colours. You will look super cool in colours like periwinkle, rose pink and orchid. Red is sensational on you – so long as you choose a blue based one such as raspberry.

When wearing your darker neutrals, balance them with lighter and brighter shades and avoid wearing two dark neutrals together.

Sparkle in silver jewellery and accessories rather than gold as silver is a cool metal and will balance your look.

Keep your blusher and lipstick pink based rather than peach and choose eyeshadow colours such as heather, lavender and opal. Beware of brown based lipsticks, especially neutral shades. Why not try a navy mascara for a change? Much more flattering than black±

Have a Cool Yule you Silver Foxesses!

Wear Pink with confidence this October

17 Oct

Pink is the new black! Autumn/Winter is borrowing a colour usually reserved for Spring this year – pink! For Winter, there are two variations – dusty rose or berry – so embrace it and think pink this season. If you invested in a dusky pink coat last Autumn/Winter, you can breathe a sigh of relief!

So how should we be wearing pink this Autumn/Winter? Well, firstly, you can transition some of your light Spring/Summer pink items by wearing them with heavier layers, thick tights and chunky boots.

Keep your look fresh by choosing monochrome – brighter pinks look best with black and lighter pinks look amazing with light greys and charcoals. More corally, peachy pinks look super chic teamed with taupes and pewter.

However, pink is not an easy colour to wear and you must get the right hue for your personal colouring.

Here is my guide to choosing the correct pink.

If you have light blonde hair and light eyes like Gwyneth Paltrow choose a baby pink or dusty rose pink and mix it with greys and blues for a flattering look.

If you have dark hair and dark eyes, think Catherine Zeta Jones, you should choose a strong, rich pink. If solid pink is not for you, choose a print instead, incorporating a hint of pink.

For those of you with Auburn hair, your best pinks will be corals and salmon pinks. Wear these with grey, but also with golden browns and moss greens for great effect.

If your hair is salt & pepper, silver or white (natural or not) the hot, rose and fuchsia pinks are must-haves in your wardrobe. This season wear them with your greys but also with those lovely navy blues we are seeing around. Pink will give you that boost of energy that you deserve.

susan-styles-you-cool-guess-shoes

If like the Duchess of Cambridge you have dark hair and bright eyes, you should wear the brightest shades of pink available, and you can wear them to contrast with other colours. Think cyclamen, rose or blush worn on their own, or again with greys, navies and black.

If your overall look is soft and muted, make your pink soft and muted too. The best shades of pink for you are salmon and powder pinks. Just make sure they blend nicely with what you are wearing

Whatever pink you wear make sure that your lipstick matches the hue and intensity for an elegant look. Remember, pink says gentleness, empathy and brings some femininity to every woman.

In case you didn’t know, there is an extra reason to wear pink as this October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If you want to go the extra mile and support Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am delighted to announce that a group of Colour Me Beautiful consultants have been brave enough to pose virtually naked in just a drape of material and some fab shoes to produce a charity calendar with all proceeds going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Lorraine Kelly has very kindly agreed to endorse the calendar.

“I’m delighted to support this project in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer and promoting a positive body image. I hope you love the calendar as much as I do and that you too will be inspired to be breast aware.”

The calendar can be purchased for £10.56 from www.2015calendar.co.uk

KEEPING ABREAST OF THINGS …

30 Jun

susan-styles-you-bras-tape

So, when was the last time you got measured for a bra? Well if it isn’t in the last year listen up!

There are many reasons why you should have your boobs professionally measured – these are just some of them:

* weight gain
* weight loss
* pregnancy
* menopause
* illness
* puberty
* lactation

It is also very important to replace your bras regularly as constant washing means less support over time.

More than a third of women wear the wrong bra size. Most women are wearing a bra that is too big in the back size and too small in the cup size. Wearing the right size bra can make you look and feel fabulous. Wearing the wrong size will make you look heavier and your boobs will look saggy. You may even suffer from back ache and muscle tension. The right size bra will completely change the shape of your body, keeping your breasts exactly where they are meant to be. It will cause your torso to look leaner and slimmer – it can make you look a whopping 10lb slimmer! And, you have to admit it, wearing a sexy new bra and pants does wonders for your confidence! It is your little secret 🙂

You should have a wardrobe of bras that suit your lifestyle. You may need one with seams, one without, a push up bra, a t shirt bra, a sports bra, a strapless bra. Then you ideally need three of each style, one to wear, one to wash and one in the drawer.

During a Style Consultation, I always ask “When were you last measured for a bra?”. I am pleased to say that most ladies do make sure they do this regularly, but recently, I thought to myself “When was the last time I was measured for a bra?” and I am ashamed to say it is quite a few years. So, last week I took myself off to Bravissimo in Manchester City Centre. They have a unique way of deciding what bra size you should be – they do it purely by sight!

I am pleased to inform you that I WAS wearing the correct size bra (Phew!) – 30F if you are interested. And I decided to treat myself to a couple of new sets. My instructions were – no black, white or nude – I fancied some colours and something pretty. You should take your individual colouring into account when selecting lingerie too! And PLEASE do not wear white lingerie under white clothes! Choose a bra that closely resembles your skin tone to avoid awkward over exposure.

Following my brief (see what I did there?) the Bravissimo sales assistant came to my fitting room with an array of bras in different colours and styles for me to try on and was very helpful in helping make my choice. She even made notes of the styles I liked for future purchases.

Here is what I decided on – the Marcie in yellow and the Satine in Bloom:

susan-styles-you-marcie-in-yellow-bravissimo-e1397013639485

susan-styles-you-satine

Bravissimo has a great video on their website to give you some guidelines on the perfect fitting bra:

Whilst we are on the subject of boobs, I wanted to share with you something fantastic. Some of my amazing Colour Me Beautiful colleagues have taken their clothes off in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer! They are aiming to produce and sell 5,000 copies of their fabulous glossy A3 calendar, which features 13 real women, inspiring quotes and professional style advice. Their cover girl, Maria, was diagnosed with breast cancer six months ago and had her final chemotherapy treatment the day after the photo shoot, although you wouldn’t know it, she looks amazing! Her early diagnosis and positivity have been a key factor as she’s responding very well to treatment and we want to make sure that all women have the same opportunity by raising awareness of the Touch Look Check campaign.

BC-Calendar

They have already smashed their target of £7000 to cover printing costs and any further donations will be going straight to Breakthrough Breast Cancer – please check out Body Confidence Calendar 2015 and give them your support!

Here is a bit of fun to finish with:
