Lady in Red

24 Nov

With Christmas just around the corner, you will probably be planning your party outfit quite soon! Do you usually play it safe with a Little Black Dress? Why not try something different this year and go for red? There is a shade or tone of red that suits most of us! If you have a warm undertone, choose an orange red or if you have a cool undertone, choose a blue based red.

Bill Blass once send “When in doubt, wear red” and why not? First of all, it screams Christmas. It is also a well known fact that men love a lady in a red dress. Red signals fertility and attractiveness in other species. If you want to be the belle of the ball, a red dress is a real head turner for sure.
But which style to choose? This will depend, of course, on your body shape, but your style personality will also come into it. You might want to go for something really opulent in sensuous fabric, or with detailing or you may prefer something more simple.

Here are some ideas for you.
Classic Personality

You probably admire the style of Helen Mirren and prefer a traditional and understated look. A simple jersey, shift or tea dress (depending on your body shape) with a little detail would be a good staple for you. Look for something very elegant and classic with just a little sparkle and gathering for detail. This classic Wallis jersey dress with a little neck and gathering detail is perfect for you. Team it with these lovely Stella & Dot Maddie pearl earrings to finish the look.

Dramatic Personality

If you like to create striking looks with the latest fashions and you are not afraid to stand out, you will have a Dramatic style personality. This shimmering dress worn by Myleene Klass will certainly get heads turning!  Team with these gorgeous silver Stella & Dot Filigree Joyce earrings for extra impact!

Romantic Personality

If you like pretty, feminine fabrics and detail you will be a Romantic. Floor length and floaty chiffon or delicate lace is perfect for you. Nicole Kidman often expresses her romantic side in gorgeous, ultra feminine floor length gowns. This Biba dress will work the same magic for you. Add a statement cuff like this vintage inspired Chantilly lace one and watch the compliments fly in!

City Chic Personality

You follow trends rather than street fashion. You like to coordinate and look immaculate at all times. Meryl Streep is a typical example of a City Chic with her very simple but very stylish look. With your fabulous sense of style, you could take a simple dress like this silk Biba shirt dress, and make it look ultra chic by accessorising it to your liking. Why not try this beautiful Starry Night pendant? Sunglasses are optional!

Creative Personality

Are you drawn to vintage? Do you like unusual finds and mixing up pieces to create your own look? You might combine different fabrics and pattern.  Then you are probably a Creative like Chaka Khan. This Reiss dress is a classic shape but has a quirky mix of textures that you would enjoy working with. You could team it with a sumptuous satin or fur jacket. Why not colour clash your accessories because you can? These Garden Party Earrings would be perfect! Add some green shoes for a fab look.

Natural Personality

You’re not a huge fan of dressing up and are happiest in jeans and comfortable clothes. If you have to wear a dress you want it to be unfussy and comfy! Like Kate Winslet you would be a Natural. She favours minimal accessories and easy updos. This Alexon maxi dress will give you the right look for a special evening out with minimum fuss. The jersey fabric is easy to wear and because it is a great red dress, you don’t need bold accessories to make it look fantastic. Try these simple Swallow studs.

And the perfect lipstick

If you are wearing red lipstick with your great new dress you must get the lip colour just right.

As you will have chosen the right shade of red dress for your colouring (naturally!) you need a lipstick colour close to that or a just a shade lighter. You don’t want the lips to clash with your dress, you want a colour that complements your dress.

Alternatively, if you are going for bold eye make-up then your lip colour should be very pale or nude. If you need advice on make-up please contact me!
