In praise of the Statement Necklace

12 Aug

Former Olympian and actress Sonja Henie once said “Jewellery takes people’s minds off your wrinkles” A statement necklace can brighten up the most uninspiring t shirt or dress. They are bang on trend at the moment – make it funky and chunky and you can’t go far wrong. I love this Stella & Dot Bamboleo necklace (incidentally reduced in the sale to £97.50). A medley of pink dyed jade and turquoise are loosely braided with antiqued chains to create a bold, colorful statement  The rest of the look is kept simple with a plain colour t shirt and jacket.

Perhaps you are a little self conscious of your tummy or hips, or maybe you are losing weight or have gained weight? Statement jewellery will help you not only to draw attention away from the bits you don’t want to show off, but add colour and interest to enhance your look and keep you current with trends.

When choosing a statement necklace you should take into consideration your personal colouring – do you have a cool or a warm skin tone? If you have a cool skin tone, silver, platinum or pewter is more flattering. For a warm skin tone, choose gold, copper and bronze. You should also think about your scale, the larger your scale, the larger you can make your statement necklace! Petite ladies should look for something more delicate.

If you have a lot of black in your wardrobe, add a pop of colour with a statement necklace. This is a sure fire way to make a black outfit more flattering. The light will reflect on the metals and beads, giving a lift to your natural colouring. Why not try a pearl necklace? Pearls are so feminine and flattering. A pearl necklace appears to lift the life and vitality of the complexion and impart a warm glow to the skin. Usually, rose or silver/white pearls tend to look best on cool skin tones while cream and gold toned pearls are flattering to warmer complexions. The champagne colours in this Stella & Dot Lucia necklace are so pretty!

Remember to keep your look simple with a statement necklace. Wear with a button down shirt for work or with a simple t shirt, or a strapless dress. A solid colour usually works best.

Why not experiment with layering? Choose different weights and textures, mix metallics together. Now this necklace really is a statement! From the Stella & Dot Autumn collection, this Lillith Fringe necklace is just stunning! It adds drama and sophisitication to both daytime and night time outfits. The fashion forward fringe details are a nod to tribal influence. I love the matte black chains and the extra long tassels.

However you choose to wear your statement necklace have fun with it and let me know how you get on!
